Descrizione

The house and garden are the cornerstones of our urbanised landscape and shape our everyday environment. However, in the private gardens of western urban landscapes dominate a uniformity and spatial ecological wasteland, characterised by the creeping loss of basic design principles and plant expertise in recent decades. Sixty years ago, the Danish landscape architect C. Th. Sørensen dealt with the multi-layered potential of the ordinary allotment garden in the form of 39 variants of the same area; this resulted in an impressive conceptual foundation work for both professionals and students as well as garden lovers. Sørensen's 39 garden plans have also occupied Günther Vogt, who got the book at the beginning of his studies, in his design attitude and practical activity to this day. In this new edition, Sørensen's approaches are expanded with precise inserts to landscape architectural design theories and strategies by Günther Vogt. A comprehensive biography of Sørensens with reference to his far-reaching professional influences conveys the relevance of the Danish landscape architect, especially in the German-speaking world. Thus, this re-publication offers approaches to the imagination, materialization, and development of gardens as needs-based open spaces that simultaneously form atmospheric places in our urban landscapes.
